This quote is made by one of the more well known authors who have been on earth, C.S. Lewis. Essentially what this quote is trying to accomplish, is that someone who is far too proud, always looking down on others, can therefore not see what is above he/she, meaning greater then themselves. If one is so proud, they believe that nothing can get at them, nothing can hurt them, they are clearly missing what is above them: this said person is so busy looking down on others and critiquing them that they can not even do anything about themselves or come to the conclusion that they are indeed wrong...
